Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, dear Girls and Boys
I would like to meet you! Wouldn't you like to meet your colleagues as well?
So what about a meeting next summer?! It would be the First Knife Throwing Event in Germany (or in Austria or in Swizerland?!).
The thing is more easily said than done. Quite some things must be considered and prepared. And most of all: What exactly shall this become?
Let me present you some proposals. We will see, whether it will mature until summer.
First there must be known some cornerstones of the matter. Therefore the following questions:
-
How many participants might come?
-
What is the maximum distance you want to throw?
-
Do you wish a plain meeting or a contest with rules?
-
The thing needs a name. Here just for fun some proposals:
-
Deutsches Axt- und Messerwerfer-Treffen
-
Deutscher Messerwerfer-Wettbewerb
-
Deutsches Werfer-Treffen
-
Werfer-Symposion
-
?
-
?
-
The date of the event must be fixed. A first proposal: A weekend in July or August.
-
Do you wish to stay overnight?
Now information about what I can offer you actually. And some remarks:
-
For up to about 6 participants, I could place at disposal a privat field near Pottenstein. This is a rural site, not so easy to find, but very romantic. This would be the cheapest version.
-
For more participants, I could perhaps organize a public field near Erlangen, where you can easily come by train. Only here comes a budget into play, because the field must be paid, and the restrictions are more tight.
-
Whether meeting or contest, rules will be necessary, for safety and responsibility reasons. The event will be experimental, because it will be the first of its kind in Germany. But we could have a look at America, Canada or Sweden, where throwing contests including rules are established. We will not imitate them, because probably we have our own taste. But they can give a first hint.
-
We will need an insurance. This is still an open point. I guess, any insurer will insist on rules (mentioned above) and a detailed plan of the whole thing. I hope, that I can tell you something about this soon. Or does anybody of yours have experience with this topic?
-
I am not keen on an organized association. But it might be, that an association has better cards when dealing with offices and insurances. So should we perhaps attempt to found an association? This will be superfluous, if the meeting happens on privat ground with few people. Just for fun some name proposals:
-
Deutsche Axt- und Messerwerfer-Vereinigung
-
Deutscher Messerwerfer-Verein
-
Deutscher Werfer-Club
-
Sportliches Messerwerfen e.V.
-
?
-
?
-
If a 'hard core' of three or more people has crystallized, we should have a precursive meeting in spring.
-
My motiv is to be acquainted with you. I am not keen on organizing. Actually, my time is little, and organization will be slow. It might be, that somebody else is better in organizing. Perhaps somebody could help me, or cooperate. I don't know. But definitely I want to give here the initial spark, resulting in a real meeting.
Hey, arn't you fascinated by the idea of a german thrower's meeting?
Please consider about this page: It is a very first, crude beginning to initiate such thing. Sure, it is formally and with regard to the contents embryonic. Don't be bothered by such subtleties. Just respond!
Have fun with throwing
Your Franz
p.s. Read the chapter "Discussion - Communications" and participate in the new Ring Mailing List.
* Werfhausen does not really exist. It means the town or village, where the meeting will happen. But the date is real.
* Werfhausen gibt's nicht wirklich. Das soll den Ort bezeichnen, wo das Treffen stattfinden wird. Aber das Datum stimmt.
