In the evolution of tools, one may see the axe as the combination of stick, stone and knife.   In der Entwicklung der Werkzeuge kann man die Axt als Kombination von Stock, Stein und Messer betrachten.

The symmetry of the axe is less than of the knife's. The center of gravity is out of the grip axis. This means, the handling of an axe has less freedom than the handling of a knife   Die Symmetrie der Axt ist niedriger als beim Messer. Der Schwerpunkt liegt außerhalb der Griff-Achse. Das bedeutet, die Handhabung einer Axt hat weniger Freiheit die Handhabung eines Messers.

With knife throwing, one might tolerate a rotation around the length axis. At least a knife might stick horizontaly once. But with the axe, a twist around the long axis is very bad spin. But the good news is, that the axe is easier to make precisely rotate stable as a disk.   Beim Messerwerfen kann man Rotation um die Längs-Achse tolerieren. Zumindest kann ein Messer schon einmal quer stecken. Bei der Axt dagegen ist eine Drehung um die Längs-Achse gleich ein schlimmes Trudeln. Aber die gute Nachricht ist, dass die Axt umso leichter in eine stabile Rotation gebracht werden kann.
