The word ballistics comes from ball.

The high symmetry of a ball has advantages not only for handling, but also when hitting or beeing reflected, resp. The direction, in which the ball is reflected, may be told exactlx, becaus it does not matter, how the ball hits. This effect is used in many sports systematically, e.g. in squash or billard.
